How to Get a Library Card
Our library welcomes all Perth Amboy residents, employees and full-time students to obtain a free Perth Amboy Public Library card. All Library cards are valid for three (3) years from the date of issue, with the exception of library cards obtained by members of non-reciprocal communities and temporary library users.
To obtain a library card an application can be filled out in person at the Circulation Desk or in the Children’s Library (on the lower level).
Perth Amboy Residents, Employees and Students
Anyone who lives, works full-time, goes to school full-time, or owns property in Perth Amboy may obtain a library card, which can be used to check out materials, access online research databases, and use the public computers at the library. Proof of any of the above can be satisfied by showing such documents as a current driver’s license, current NJ identification card, utility bills or other official documents (postmarked no later than three months), payroll check (no later than three months), apartment lease or lease agreement, school report card or schedule, student ID, Perth Amboy City ID Cards, NJ Boating License, or a letter from an organization indicating the individual resides in Perth Amboy.
Children up to grade 7 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian to obtain a card. Patrons that present ID with a PO Box will be required to show proof of their physical Perth Amboy address.
Members of non-reciprocal libraries may obtain a Perth Amboy Free Public Library card for an annual fee of $25.00. The card is valid for one year from date of payment.
If your library card is lost or stolen, a replacement card can be issued. Identification will need to be shown following the guidelines listed above. The charge for a replacement library card is $2.00.
Perth Amboy Free Public Library cards are non-transferable. Only the person whose name appears on the name/signature line of the library card application may use the library card. Unauthorized usage will result in the confiscation of the library card. The true owner will need to retrieve the card from the library with photo ID. For more information please call the library or refer to the Circulation Policy.
